Canyoning – Oh No!!! Water Fear :)

Comments 17 Standard

While we were in interlaken, my friend decided let’s go Canyoning, without any thoughts all of us said a big Yes. Booked and Paid for our slot.

Jumping in the canyons- OMG I will never ever forget this day in my life. You want to know Why? It is because until that day I dint know I am scared of water and a decision was taken that next time I do water sports it will be after I learn to swim 🙂

What is Canyoning ?- The sport of jumping into a fast-flowing mountain stream and allowing oneself to be carried downstream at high speed. It includes various types of jumps- jumps from small rocks, jumps using a rope, sliding down to a water stream and loads of it.

It is not necessary to know swimming for this sport because you are safe in life jacket, but it’s good to have those skills as when you are thrown into the water or forced down with a stream, it makes it easy for you to handle yourself and don’t lose balance.

To Book Canyoning  – http://www.outdoor-interlaken.ch/en/summer/water/canyoning. You can also check out videos in the same link.

Few pictures of that day to share the thrill with you guys:

We enjoyed, We truly enjoyed- mixture of fear, thrill and Adrenaline rush in the body. All of us were non-swimmers but it was a lifetime experience for all. And now I know basic swimming, so I am definitely going back for this. This time with Ash 🙂

Note: Any sports in Interlaken is very expensive, so you really need to save your pocket-money to do all that adventures. Stay on an economical budget trip, try hostels, cook food and you will not repent spending on those activities. It will be cherished and a tale to tell in future. I still laugh looking at my pictures as I did for the first time.

Wandering in Interlaken & Murren

Comments 15 Standard

‘ To awaken in a room where windows open to a mountain, the door takes you to gravel path leading to a river, all you can hear is chirping of birds and sound of water – Isn’t it the pleasantest sense in the world’ 🙂

I woke up to such an amazing experience one morning, while I visited Interlaken- The land of mountains and lakes, beautiful villages around and a serene beauty. After a good breakfast, I along with my friends took out our bikes and went out to explore the wilderness of Interlaken & Murren.

Driving a car has its own advantage, but if you are seeking to walk in the moorlands, cycle in the forest, a small break near a river – Believe me cycle or walk is the best way to enjoy that bliss.

Who Says Girls cant have fun :)

Interlaken is in general quite an expensive holiday location, some cost can be minimized if you do not mind staying in a backpacking hostel (shared rooms), train discount cards, rent a bike.

The Lazy Falker Backpacker – Centrally located and amazing view- http://www.hostelbookers.com/property/prp/20401/arr/2014-06-29/ngt/2/ppl/1/ or The Youth Hostel (http://www.youthhostel.ch/en/hostels/interlaken) – unfortunately when we visited it was fully booked.

If travelling from Basel to Interlaken by train – http://uk.voyages-sncf.com/en/?redirect=yes&origin=re4a&lang=en There is travel discount for people under 25 🙂

Interlaken to Murren – http://www.jungfrau.ch/en/tourism/holiday-resorts/muerren/directions-weather/

Swiss chocolates – I need not even mention, there are no shortage of shops to buy them 🙂

Given a chance I will visit Interlaken over and over again.

Bungee Jump in Swiss Alps

Comments 12 Standard

1995, that is the year when I got fascinated with Switzerland for the first time and it was a result of watching one of my most favourite hindi movie – DDLJ over and over again, a countless number of times. That is when I decided no matter what I got to visit this place once. Years passed by school, college, job and finally in year 2011 I planned my first Euro Trip to Switzerland. One of my very dearest friend(Nammi) proposed this idea of a all girls trip to Interlaken, and without any delay I promptly said yes to it.

Since I was already in the UK by then so applying for a visa was not much of a hassle. One afternoon I applied for Swiss visa through VFS, and I had the stamped passport back to me in 2 days. Yeyyy!!!  I was going to Switzerland.

This was my first backpacking trip, cheap air tickets to Basel were booked, a hostel at the bottom of Alps was booked, we had some awesome days awaiting for us. Trip had some of my bucket list items in it, and I wanted to do couple of them including Bungee Jump, Canyoning, Hiking, Sky Diving etc.

Finally we arrived at Basel airport in the afternoon and took a train to Interlaken, our base for next 3 days.

As soon as we arrived at the hostel, we enquired about bungee jump and to our luck the only slot available was in next two hours as next 3 days were completely booked. So we had to book it now or leave it for next time. Decision taken- Lets Do it! As soon as I booked it, a thought came across my mind Will I be able to jump from 146mts just tied to a rope? What am I doing? Having a lot of thoughts, I got ready and left for the basecamp at Stockhorn.

Bungee Jumping – http://www.interlaken.ch/en/activities-excursions-adventure-festivals/summer-sports-and-adventure/bungee-jumping-interlaken-stockhorn.html

I fell in love with Stockhorn, it was so beautiful, serene, pure. For a moment I forgot all about my jump and was mesmerized with the beauty around. It touched the heart..

Finally the moment came when Gondola arrived and took us to the height of 146mt for my first bungee jump. I was scared, my heart was pounding, I felt excited & nervous both at the same time. It was now my turn to jump, and the instructor said- we are going to count from 10-1, and on count of 1 you have to jump else we will push you. My reaction was NOOOOOOOO!!!!

At this moment, I was listening to the people counting. As soon as I heard ‘1’, world went numb and I just took my first bungee jump. Oh Gosh!! I was amazed at myself.
