Slut Walk

Comments 2 Standard
Every morning I travel out of  city to  work place that totals to 2 hours travel time and I utilize that time to read almost 80% of newspaper skipping the sports section (unless there is a news on India-Pakistan cricket match :P).
Anyways recently I read lots of articles about Michael Sanguinetti ‘s (a policeman) and Kenneth Clarke’s (The Justice Secretary) statements on RAPE.
It was shocking to read that Michael while giving a security lecture at a Law School told the girls that ‘If they do not want to be raped, they shouldn’t dresses ‘like Sluts’. And at one instance, Kenneth Clarke on a radio show did not hesitate to tell publically that the level of seriousness in every rape is different and we cannot consider every rape as a serious incident. It is unbelievable that two educated men of our society are making such remarks about a serious matter such as Rape.
It’s time that we as an individual look into this carefully and do not blame women for being a victim of such horrifying incident. It is not a surprising fact but the truth is most of the women are raped by the people they knew already; it could be a relative, a friend or a colleague. These statements will stop woman to bring forward the assault and trauma they went through during such an incident. What we need is to raise our voice against this and let the women live in this world safe and sound.
In fact as a protest for these statements, women got enraged and went on to start a SlutWalk, where women will go on a walk dresses as sluts, or not, in the company of supportive men, to show their anger towards people who thinks that ‘Women is reason of rape, not the men’. This walk is widely getting covered and many cities are participating in it.
So we all as a responsible human being should stand up for such walks and movements and for a fair justice towards such crimes. SlutWalk may not be feminine, fragile, polite – But good to see that women have the power, she can bring the rape to her and she can send it away as well. Better to SlutWalk then SleepWalk.
